Ichthyosis .(ick-thee-o-ses) is the name of a rare genetic skin disease (there are actually several different types of ichthyosis).  Since it's an inherited disease, it isn't contagious--you can't "catch" it.1.The Ichthyoses are a family of genetic skin diseases characterized by excessively dry, thickened, scaling skin.2.Ichthyosis cannot be cured; however, proper treatment can ease symptoms and make the condition more tolerable.
