Laryngitis is hoarseness or loss of the voice. It often occurs with a cold or overuse of the voice and affects people of all ages. It is caused by an inflammation of the moist skin that lines the voice box and surrounding tissues. Laryngitis is usually not serious, but can make it difficult to communicate.
