| West Nile Virus:
The virus in humans can produce West Nile Fever, with symptoms that include
fever, headache, body aches, skin rash and swollen lymph glands, or the
more serious West Nile Encephalitis, with symptoms that may include high
fever, headache, neck stiffness, disorientation, tremors, occasional convulsions,
paralysis and coma. People over age 50 or with compromised immune systems
are most at risk. The treatment is to help the patient survive while the
body fights off the virus.(S)
Human illness from West Nile virus is rare, even in areas where the virus has been reported. The chance that any one person is going to become ill from a mosquito bite is low.(S) |
